Elbow Rehabilitation
Distal Biceps Repair Rehab Program
PHASE 1: 0-4 WEEKS
- Immobilization in a splint until 1 week post-op
- ROM: increase passive elbow ROM as tolerated once splint is discontinued
- May perform active elbow extension and pronation
- Avoid forceful, active elbow flexion and supination
- Shoulder and wrist ROM as tolerated
PHASE 2: 4 WEEKS – 8 WEEKS
- ROM: increase as tolerated
- May begin active elbow flexion and supination
- Strengthening: begin rotator cuff isometrics
PHASE 3: 8 WEEKS – 3 MONTHS
- ROM: progress to full ROM as pain allows
- Strengthening: formal elbow strengthening exercises as tolerated
PHASE 4: 3 MONTHS+
- Begin sport-specific activities, increase joint velocity of motion
- Transition to home exercise program
